Back To Basics | How To Cook The Perfect Steak

Perfecting the classic steak brings headaches to many, and when you have invested the money in a decent piece of meat, the pressure is on to deliver a melt-in-the mouth wonder. But how many of us can honestly say we’ve nailed the perfect steak?

Once a luxury item on any menu, the rich texture of a well-cooked sirloin or the taste explosion from a decadent rib eye has found its way into the hearts and homes of the great British public. And with the wealth of TV food programmes encouraging the ‘have a go’ chef in all of us, it’s time we got to grips with this classic. Cue Jason Wardill, our resident Group Executive Chef. Jason has travelled the globe discovering new tastes, methods and ingredients and harnessed the best there is to create exceptional seasonal dishes. We’ll come back to those, but for now, we asked Jason just how easy is it to master the steak?

“Some of the most satisfying dishes we enjoy are based on classic ingredients and uncomplicated cooking methods. Try not to overthink the task, make sure you have prepped and keep it simple.

“To help demonstrate how you can achieve great results for yourself at home, Sam and I have created a short film, just a few minutes long, to see how this greatly loved dish comes to life…and you don’t need to be a chef to master it! Go on, get stuck in and get ready for the praise around the table at your next dinner party!”

Jason’s steak demo, is just the first in a series of Back to Basics, covering a number of great little classics that we often get wrong. Keep following our YouTube channel as the series unfolds.
